C.H.BERRES – A Family tradition since 1510
For more than 500 years now, the Berres family have tended their vineyards on the Mosel. Today Markus Berres, 37 years old, is the 21st generation to manage this traditional family Estate. A Graduate in Viticulture and Enology from the renowned Geisenheim University in the Rheingau, Markus took over responsibility for wine making at the Estate in 2003. The family vineyards are amongst the best in the region, located on the slopes of the Ürziger Würzgarten, Ürziger Goldwingert and Erdener Treppchen These sites are three of the most outstanding Grand Cru sites in the whole of the Moselle Valley. Old, mostly ungrafted vines grow in these vineyards and the wines reflect the complex, unspoilt terroir.
SMALL BUT BEAUTIFUL!
With a vineyard area of just 3.5 hectares, the winery could be considered to be a rather small Estate nowadays. However, the fact that the vineyards are located exclusively in the steepest vineyard sites of the Mosel, puts a different perspective on the importance of size.
100% HAND WORK NEEDS 100% PASSION!
We manage mainly steep slopes with an annual produce of around 35,000 bottles. C.H.BERRES was long regarded as a pure Riesling producer. Starting from the 2005 vintage, Pinot Blanc complements our range of wines. A thorough understanding of wine making, and the local terroir, attention to detail and the unwavering effort to bring out the best from the vineyards, that is what separates this small premium producer from the mass-market wine producers.
THERE ARE OTHER WINE PRODUCING REGIONS, BUT FEW SO BEAUTIFUL!
Through our philosophy, we are able to show our customers the great range of different flavors Riesling can yield. Riesling is after all widely known as “the queen of white wine grapes”. In our portfolio you can find everything from the light style, dry drinking wines all the way through to extremely concentrated noble sweet dessert-wine specialties. Cheers!
